Tips for NTSE Exam Preparation 2014-2015

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established by the Government of India in the year 1961 with a view to bring  about qualitative improvement in school education in the country. The  Council  mounted a number of programs in this direction and  one such program was to identify and nurture the talented students. This program took up the shape of a scheme called National Science Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) in the year 1963 which helps to identify   talented students and awarding them with scholarships. During the first year of the implementation of the scheme, it was confined to the Union Territory of Delhi wherein only 10 scholarships were awarded to the Class XI students.  These scholarships were awarded for pursuing education only in basic sciences up to doctoral level..In 1964 the scheme was extended in all states and Union Territories with 350 scholarships for XI standard students .In 1976 the program was renamed as National Talent Search Scheme(NTSE) and the scheme was extended to social sciences, medicine and Engineering subjects The students of X, XI. XII permitted to write the exam and scholarship number raised to 500.Separate exam conducted for each class and the test include  MAT(Mental Ability Test) & SAT(Scholastic Aptitude Test) Selected students have to attend an interview and final select list prepared based on the scores of test and interview .In 2000 the scholarship number was raised to 1000.In 2006 onwards NTSE exam was held at the end of class VIII .Later from 2010 onwards the ranklist was prepared based on the test alone without interview. All details of NTSE are available in the NCERT website .Click to view
.
From the year 2012-13

·  NTSE was  conducted for Class X students
·  The examination will consist of Mental Ability Test(MAT) and Scholastic Ability Test(SAT)
·  Quota for State/UT will be computed proportionally on the basis of students enrolment
    in Class IX and X
·  The amount of scholarship will be Rs. 500/- per month for all the students studying   in Class XI onwards(irrespective of class/course) except for Ph.D., wherein it is paid as per UGC norms.
The scholarships under the present scheme are awarded to the candidates for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and in professional courses like medicine and engineering up to second-degree level subject to the fulfilment of the conditions.
From 2014-2015 onwards the scholarship amount was increased to 1250 per month for class XI & XII and to 2000 per month for undergraduates and post graduates and for Phd scholars sa per the UGC norms

There is a laison officer for conducting the first stage of exam at the state level and the details are available by clicking the link given .Laison Officers
